SIU Playwriting student, Myah Gary, is part of the second cohort of playwrights for the Confluence Writers Project at the St. Louis Shakespeare Festival! Myah worked on a new play with mentors from St. Louis for 2020 and received a $3,000 stipend. A reading of Myah's new play is scheduled for Fall 2021 in St. Louis.

SIU alumni Steve Ackerman and Ellen Conn, as part of Heart of the Beast Puppet and Mask Theatre create a live-action, three-dimensional cartoon performed by a cast of fifteen. It will be performed as part of the Chicago International Puppet Theater Festival January 23-24.

First Year MFA Playwriting student, Kirsten Easton, and Second Year MFA Playwriting student, Jaclyn Grogan, both had plays invited to the 2014 Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival, Region III. Kirsten's 10-minute play, Blackout, was invited, and Jaclyn's one act play, Seven Violet Marbles, was invited.

PuppetLab is a bold program at In the Heart of the Beast puppet and mask theatre in Minneapolis that supports emerging puppet artists in their quest to push outwards at the limits of figure theater.
SIU Alumnus Steve Ackerman's show Cartoon opens there March 1, 2013. A case study of the controversial 1940s animated program "Tummy da Talking Turtle Sucks on Piano Keys" and the causality of a co-dependent relationship between a reptile and a quickly descending anvil. Check it out if you're in Minneapolis!
